Aion 2 Enhancement System Guide: Strategy, Risk Management, and Optimal Progression
Enhancement is the single most discussed progression system in Aion 2. A viral gameplay clip from September 13 showed a 700b enhancement run, and the community response made it clear: understanding the Enhancement system is essential for competitive players but terrifying for the casual ones. This guide breaks down the mechanics, math, and strategies.

How Enhancement Works
Enhancement upgrades your equipment's + level using materials and gold (or Kinah). Each enhancement attempt has a success probability that decreases as your enhancement level rises. A successful attempt increases your + level by one. A failed attempt typically reduces your + level by one, with some levels having catastrophic failure (complete destruction).
The probability curve is steep: +1 to +10 has relatively high success rates (80-95%), +11 to +20 drops sharply (50-70%), and +21 and above enters the true gamble zone (30-50% at typical mid-range levels). The exact probabilities for global launch may differ from the Korean service.
Cost Curves: The Gold Trap
Enhancement costs scale exponentially. Each + level requires more materials and more gold than the last. A common progression path: +1 costs 10b, +5 costs 50b, +10 costs 300b, +15 costs 1,500b, +20 costs 10,000b+. The 700b clip viral because it showed a player pushing a high-level enhancement with thousands of gold already invested.
Key insight: the cost to reach +20 is typically 10-15x the cost of +10. This means that a single catastrophic failure at +18 wipes out the equivalent of several months of regular play. The system is designed to create high stakes, not to be casually spammed.
Failure Insurance: What Protects You
NCsoft provides several safety nets: enhancement protection items that prevent downgrade on failure, enhancement insurance tokens that refund a portion of costs, and certain crafting materials that reduce failure probability for one attempt.
The optimal strategy for most players is to use protection items starting at +12 or higher, and to save enough gold to cover at least 3-5 failed attempts at the target level before committing to a full run.
Protection items are available through crafting, dungeon drops, and the cash shop. They are consumable and must be purchased or crafted for each use.
When to Push and When to Stop
The most important strategic decision: knowing when to stop. Professional and competitive players typically follow a 'stop-loss' rule: if a piece drops to a level below their investment threshold (usually -2 from starting point), they extract and start fresh on a different piece rather than continuing to gamble.
Budget allocation matters more than luck. A player who budgets 5,000b for a +20 enhancement and uses protection at +15 will almost always reach their target. A player who gambles without protection will likely lose significantly more gold over time.
The optimal enhancement path for most players: enhance multiple pieces to +10 or +12, then invest the remaining budget into one premium piece with full protection from +12 upward.
What May Change for Global Launch
NC has not confirmed whether the global Enhancement probabilities will match the Korean service. The modified Season 1 (longer progression curves, adjusted reward scaling) suggests some probability adjustments are possible.
Global players should expect the same core mechanics — protection items, insurance tokens, gold-and-material costs — but should verify specific probability tables on day one.
The Enhancement system will remain a significant progression gate, especially for end-game content like Snowfield of Sorrow where item level requirements are strict. Budget your gold accordingly.
