Aion 2 PvP Guide: Aerial Combat & Faction Warfare

Aion 2 brings the legendary PvP of the original Aion into the modern era, with a heavy emphasis on verticality — aerial combat is a defining feature that sets it apart from other MMORPGs. Whether you are fighting for the Elyos or the Asmodians in the Abyss, skirmishing in open-world rift zones, or dueling in the arena, the PvP system rewards positioning, class knowledge, and team coordination. This guide covers everything you need to dominate in Aion 2 PvP.

01

Aerial Combat: The Unique Advantage

Aerial combat is the signature mechanic that defines Aion 2 PvP. Unlike most MMORPGs where ground positioning dominates, Aion 2 introduces a full three-dimensional battle space. Wings are not just for travel — they are a combat tool that grants mobility, evasion, and tactical positioning.

Classes handle aerial combat differently. Assassins and Sorcerers excel at hit-and-run aerial strikes, while Templars and Priests use their flight to reposition defensively. Mastering the transition between ground and flight combat — launching aerial combos, dodging with flight maneuvers, and knowing when to descend — is the first step to PvP proficiency.

Key aerial mechanics include: Flight Time (a limited resource that depletes during combat, forcing strategic landings), Aerial Knock-Up (skills that launch enemies into the air, leaving them vulnerable to follow-up attacks), and Air-to-Ground advantage (attacking from above grants minor damage bonuses). Managing your flight gauge is as important as managing your HP.

Faction PvP: Elyos vs Asmodians

The Elyos and Asmodians have been locked in an eternal conflict since the Cataclysm. In Aion 2, faction warfare is the backbone of the PvP endgame. Your faction choice determines your home city, quest lines, and — most importantly — who you fight in the Abyss and open world.

Faction PvP takes place primarily in the Abyss, where Elyos and Asmodian forces clash over artifacts, fortresses, and control points. The Abyss surface layer is a permanent PvPvE zone accessible from level 45, where you earn Abyss Points (AP) by killing enemy faction players and completing faction objectives. Higher AP ranks unlock better PvP gear and cosmetic rewards.

One of the most important strategic elements is the faction balance system. Aion 2 uses dynamic population balancing to prevent one faction from dominating the server. Players on the outnumbered faction receive buffs and bonus AP multipliers, encouraging players to maintain server balance rather than stacking on the winning side.

Abyss PvP & PvPvE

The Abyss is the heart of Aion 2 PvP — a massive vertical zone that spans multiple layers, from the surface down to the Rift Zone. The Abyss surface features a PvPvE design where NPC monsters, environmental hazards, and enemy players all pose threats simultaneously. You can farm AP from PvE sources like Abyss mobs, but the fastest AP gain comes from player kills.

The Abyss Rift Zone is the pinnacle of Aion 2 mass PvP: 300v300 battles that take place in a separate instance. These battles are scheduled events that rotate between servers, featuring siege objectives, boss encounters, and massive faction clashes. The Rift Zone rewards the highest AP payouts and exclusive Abyss-tier gear.

Beyond the open zones, the Abyss also features Fortress battles — guild-level siege events where factions fight to control strategic fortresses. Controlling a fortress grants territorial bonuses, a shared vault, and access to exclusive NPC merchants. Fortress battles are scheduled weekly and require coordination between multiple guilds on the same faction.

Open World PvP & Ganking

Open world PvP in Aion 2 operates on a flagging system. In neutral zones, players are unflagged by default and can quest freely. However, the Abyss and Rift zones are always-flagged PvP zones — entering these areas means you accept the risk of being attacked at any time. Low-level zones are generally safe, but the endgame zones are constant warzones.

Ganking — the act of higher-level or better-geared players ambushing weaker targets — is an accepted part of Aion 2 PvP culture, though it comes with consequences. Killing players of significantly lower level or AP rank grants diminished or zero AP rewards, while accumulating too many kills against weaker players may flag you as an Outlaw, temporarily reducing your stats and making you a target for bounty hunters.

To survive in open world PvP, always carry disposable Flight Scrolls for emergency escapes, stay aware of your surroundings using the mini-map's faction indicators, and travel in groups when crossing high-risk zones. The open world rewards vigilance and punishes complacency — every corner of the Abyss could hide an enemy assassin waiting to strike.
