RUMOR CHECK
Aion 2 “September launch” Headline Checked: Steam Says October 5
On August 30, a headline aggregating around Aion 2 claimed the game's global launch would happen in September and that a pay-to-win controversy had been “reversed”. Neither claim survives contact with the primary sources we verified on September 1: Steam lists the release as 2026-10-05, and advance access starts September 30. This report separates the signal from the noise.

The Headline That Circulated
On August 30, an outlet indexed by Google News published the headline “AION 2: P2W scandal reversed, global launch September”. We verified the headline's existence in the index; we could not verify the article body, which the source domain did not serve.
The headline bundles two claims: a monetization reversal and a September launch window. Both are checkable against primary sources — which is the point of this report.
Verification matters because launch-date confusion costs players real decisions: when to request a playtest, when to pre-load, and when to book time off.
What the Store Page Actually Says
The Aion 2 Steam store page, fetched on September 1, 2026, lists “Release Date: 5 Oct, 2026” and repeats “Coming 5 Oct, 2026” in the store panel. Advance access is stated as “Advance Access Starts 30 Sep”, five days ahead of release.
The countdown line reads “This game plans to unlock in approximately 4 weeks”, which is consistent with an October 5 unlock, not a September one.
There is no September global-release date anywhere on the page. The only September reference is the 30th — the advance access start.
Where the September Confusion Comes From
September 30 is real, and it is a launch-adjacent date: Founder's Packs grant five days of early access beginning September 30. A headline that compresses “September 30 early access” into “September launch” is technically wrong but not hard to stumble into.
The Launch Scale Test also lands mid-September (September 17–18), adding more “September” signals for anyone not checking dates precisely.
NCsoft itself once suggested a September launch for the global service before the Gamescom confirmations settled on October 5 — so older pages can carry the earlier framing too.
The P2W Reversal Claim, Separately
The “P2W scandal reversed” part of the headline is harder to pin down because the article body was not retrievable. What the store page verifiably shows is a cosmetics-led free-to-play posture with in-app purchases, and our site's earlier verified coverage documents the monetization Q&A around member benefits.
What this site independently documented: the monetization conversation is ongoing and NCsoft has publicly positioned the global game as free-to-play with a cosmetic-led shop (see our monetization guide). Whether that satisfies the word “reversal” is a judgment the headline made, not a fact it proved.
Treat the P2W characterization as an editorial claim unless NCsoft publishes a change notice we can cite.
The Bottom Line
Release date: October 5, 2026, per Steam and the Gamescom confirmations. Advance access: September 30. The Launch Scale Test: September 17–18. Those are the dates that matter.
If you see “September launch” anywhere, read it as sloppy shorthand for the September 30 advance access, not a change in plan.
Bookmark the Steam store page as the reference: it is dated, machine-readable, and currently unambiguous.
