SERVER SELECTION

AION 2 Server Region Guide: NA, EU, Japan, and South America — Which to Choose for October 5 Launch

With the October 5 global launch approaching, server selection is one of the first decisions players must make. NCsoft has confirmed infrastructure across Western NA, Eastern NA, Central Europe, Japan, and South America — all powered by the new Microsoft Azure partnership. But which server should you choose? The answer depends on your location, language preference, PvP goals, and whether you value low latency or high population.

01

Confirmed Server Regions

NCsoft has confirmed five server regions for the global launch: Western North America, Eastern North America, Central Europe, Japan, and South America. Each region will have multiple server instances to distribute population load.

Notably absent is an Oceania server. Players in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands will need to connect to Asian or North American servers, resulting in higher latency. This has been a consistent point of community frustration since the Korean launch.

The Azure infrastructure partnership announced September 16 means all regions benefit from Microsoft's global backbone, providing more consistent cross-region performance than NCsoft's previous proprietary setup.

02

Latency Expectations by Region

Western NA servers: optimal for US West Coast, Canada West, and Hawaii. Expected latency 20-60ms for most players in these areas.

Eastern NA servers: optimal for US East Coast, Canada East, and Central/South America north. Expected latency 30-80ms.

Central Europe servers: optimal for EU, UK, Middle East, and Africa. Expected latency 20-70ms depending on ISP routing.

Japan servers: optimal for Japan, Korea, and East Asia. Note: Japan servers may have language-specific content and different peak hours. Expected latency 10-40ms for East Asian players.

South America servers: optimal for Brazil, Argentina, Chile, and surrounding countries. Expected latency 30-80ms. This is a new addition compared to the Korean launch.

03

Population Considerations

NA servers (combined) will likely have the largest total population, but splitting between West and East helps distribute load. Western NA tends to peak later (evening PST), Eastern NA peaks earlier (evening EST).

Central Europe will have the second-largest population with peak hours around 18:00-23:00 CET. EU servers typically have more diverse language communities.

Japan servers have a distinct community culture and may have different content schedules. Non-Japanese speakers can play but may face language barriers in group content.

South America is a new region that may have lower initial population but could grow quickly. Portuguese and Spanish communities will be concentrated here.

04

Cross-Server Features

AION 2 supports cross-server guild wars and the brokerage marketplace. This means your server choice does not completely isolate you — you can compete and trade across servers within your region.

However, dungeon groups and PvP matchmaking are typically server-first. Choosing a server with active peak-hour population is important for group content.

The Azure backbone enables faster cross-server synchronization than previous NCsoft titles, reducing the delay in marketplace listings and guild war registrations across servers.

05

Recommendation by Player Type

Competitive PvP players: choose the server with the lowest latency to your location. In the Abyss and battlegrounds, 30ms can determine whether a dodge succeeds.

Social/casual players: choose the server with the highest population in your time zone. More players means easier group formation and a more active marketplace.

Language-specific players: Japan servers for Japanese, Central Europe for English/German/French, NA for English/Spanish, South America for Portuguese/Spanish.

Oceania players: unfortunately no dedicated server. Eastern NA or Japan will offer the best compromise depending on your exact location and willingness to accept higher latency.
