AION 2 Spacetime Rift Rework: Higher Monolith Scores, and a Teleport Lock NCsoft Had to Clarify

The Spacetime Rift Contention got two changes in the same line of the Korean update notes, and they pull in opposite directions. Attacking the Monolith now pays substantially more score, which rewards groups that commit to the objective. At the same time, being inside the event now locks off a set of things players were doing around it: mission quests, entry to the Legion airship home base, and phase travel to other territories. The second change needed an amendment two days later, which tells you how much it surprised the population.

01

The Two Lines That Matter

First, scoring. The notes state that points gained when attacking the Monolith during the Spacetime Rift Contention are raised substantially. No multiplier is published, so the honest reading is directional: objective pressure now counts for more relative to the other ways of earning contribution inside the same match.

Second, restriction. While participating in the event, three activities are blocked: mission quests including the wanted-order line, entering the Legion airship home base, and phase entry into other territories. In practice this seals the event from the side activities that used to be run inside its time window.

One more line sits alongside the two: contribution rewards in the form of commendation medals were partly raised for the Abyss boss, the artifact occupation war, and this rift contention together. Read with the Monolith change, the patch is pushing reward toward players who stay on the fight rather than those who farm around it.

02

Why Objective Scoring Changes Group Behaviour

In a contested zone, whatever scores hardest is what organised groups defend. Raising the value of Monolith damage shifts the argument from population control toward objective pressure, which favours leagues that can commit a fixed squad to the structure instead of spreading across the map to intercept.

It also changes what a smaller group can achieve. If the objective itself pays more, a squad that secures the Monolith for a short window can bank score that a larger, more dispersed force cannot easily erase — provided it can hold long enough, which is where the lock-down rules below start to matter.

Because no multiplier was published, treat this as a design signal rather than a number to plan around. The measurable version of the claim will come from who wins the windows on the live servers over the next patch cycle, and from whether the medal changes at the top of the notes compound it.

03

The Restriction NCsoft Had to Explain

The notes were amended on September 18 at 12:50 to supplement the movement-restriction section. A clarification added after publication, on a rule that removes options players already assumed they had, usually means the first wording was read as narrower or broader than intended.

For players the practical consequence is scheduling. If mission quests, airship access and cross-territory phase travel are unavailable while you are inside the contention, then the event stops being a window in which you can also clear chores. The time becomes exclusive, and any routine built on stacking activities inside it needs rebuilding.

It also has a faction-balance dimension. Locking teleport and phase options removes the fastest escape and reinforcement routes for whichever side is losing ground, which pairs naturally with the raised Monolith value: harder to disengage, more valuable to hold.

One caution about this specific line. NCsoft published the restriction and then expanded the wording rather than changing it, so the restriction itself appears to be intended design, not a retraction. Whether the global launch ships the same rule is simply not stated anywhere in the notes.

What To Do Before You Judge It

If you play on the Korean or Taiwanese service, audit any rotation that quietly relied on running mission quests or the airship during a rift window; that income is now gone and you will need a separate slot for it. Then test whether your usual squad can hold the Monolith long enough for the new value to pay off, because that is the trade the patch is asking you to make.

If you are waiting for the global launch, the useful conclusion is not about numbers at all. Two weeks before the October 5 release, and after a scale test that ran the mode, NCsoft was still changing how this objective scores and what you may do while inside it. Expect that system to be in motion, and avoid gearing or scheduling decisions that only work if the current rules hold.

The related guides on this site cover how the contention is structured and how cross-server matching and faction balance interact with it, which is the framework that survives most rule changes. The class-side patch summary explains the other half of what you can actually execute once you are inside.
